Valda, Grumes, Grauno (Alta Valle)

Typical mountain villages, where you can start some interesting walks: “Valda masi delle “Bornie” lake Valda. Length: 3 hours starting from the church. The street winds up towards “the Bornie” small villages (masi) (chapel of S.Teresina at 950 m) and then proceeds towards Noval (chapel of St Rocco) and then to lake Valda (at 1360 m) at the center of a peat rich basin. At 3.5 km from Valda, one reaches the inhabited area of Grumes at 852 m with its characteristic high bell tower. From the village there is a small road which goes towards the “Masi” (villages), a group of houses dispersed along the river, which witness ancient settlements dedicated to forest cultivation. In “Valdonega (1414 m) a beautiful mountain atmosphere in the woods or the pastures. Leaving Grumes on the main road 612, one can head towards Grauno at a distance of 2 km, towards Cavalese. The village (968 m) is situated on the side of the mountain (Dosso del colle 1616 m) in a sunny position. It is well known for its carnival, when the young people, burn a pine tree at dusk after having dragged it to the village from the mountain. This ritual is very impressive and very significant. It is carried out together with the rest of the population on the last day of carnival. The road to the mountain “Pradi Larghi” (1500 m), a vast pasture in the woods starts from here. Near the town hall a the peak of the village the “old trades path” begins. This is a somewhat steep and very interesting path which goes down along the valley to Grauno, leading to an old windmill, a sawmill and a forge.
